Why This “Stuff” Works
It is the unique blend of these healthy, whole-food ingredients that is tremendously beneficial for kidney health.
Organic TCM Golden Flaxseed
Golden Flaxseed has been in existence for thousands of years and has been appreciated throughout history for its uses. It has been highly valued in Ayurvedic medicine as an anti-inflammatory and the ancient Egyptians used flaxseed as both a food and medicine. Hippocrates touted flax for the relief of intestinal discomfort. King Charlemagne passed laws ordering the people to consume flaxseed. And Gandhi quoted, “whenever flaxseed becomes a regular food item among the people, there will be better health.”
Flaxseed is rich in α-linolenic acid (ALA). Lignans, fiber, and flaxseed has been associated with health benefits across the body’s systems including the kidneys, cardiovascular, and immune systems. Several studies have shown the beneficial effects of flaxseed on kidney parameters including in animal models of diabetic kidney disease, lupus nephritis, and polycystic kidney disease. In addition, flaxseeds contain omega-3 fatty acids which have been shown to reduce the risk of kidney failure.
The milled (ground) flaxseed used in our products is created from whole Golden Flaxseed with 99.9% purity. Golden flaxseed has more polyunsaturated fatty acids and less monounsaturated fatty acids and antioxidants than brown flaxseeds. It is processed using a proprietary method called True Cold Milled (TCM), which does not grind, crush or liberate oil within the plant like other processes and results in True Cold Milled (TCM) Flaxseed™. This makes our product very unique because it aids in preserving the highest consumable nutrient concentration. The flaxseed enters the process at room temperature, is milled at room temperature, and exits at room temperature. It’s then tested in a laboratory and shipped fresh from farmers in North Dakota.
Concentrated Flax Hull Lignans
Concentrated Flax Hull Lignans are not flaxseeds and this is a key distinction to be made. Rather, flax hulls are the shell of the flaxseed where the seed has been removed using a special patented mechanical process free from chemicals. Flax hulls are not typically found in the flaxseeds you may purchase at the store, but they contain high concentrations of key phytonutrients called lignans.
Lignans, also called secoisolariciresinol diglucosides (SDG), are a group of naturally occurring polyphenol compounds found in plants and there are many varieties, all of which scientists believe work together to provide amazing health benefits. They’re one of the major classes of phytoestrogens that affect androgen metabolism and have antimitotic, antiangiogenic, antioxidant, and estrogenic effects. Flaxseed lignans are also anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungus, anti-tumor, anti-mittic and may be linked to a low incidence of some breast and colon cancers.
Nutritional intervention studies have shown that consumption of soy-based protein and flaxseed reduces proteinuria and lessens renal functional or structural damage in humans with various forms of chronic renal disease. Animal models have shown the beneficial effects of flax hull lignans on diabetes and kidney diseases including lupus nephritis. Lignans also show promise in reducing chronic inflammation, which underlies many chronic diseases including cardiovascular and kidney disease. Generally, higher consumption of lignans is associated with reduced inflammatory markers in American adults.
Flaxseed is the richest source of lignans in the plant kingdom, containing up to 800 times more than any other plant source and lignans are especially concentrated in flax hulls. Despite the huge potential benefit of lignans, many foods contain relatively low levels. That’s why we use North Dakota grown crops and a cold milled process to yield full spectrum flax hull lignans. And for those using flaxseed oil, the time to switch is now. Not only does ground flaxseed offer a nutritional advantage over flaxseed oil, but there are also practically no lignans at all in the oils.
Kidney Bean Powder
Kidney Bean Powder and whole beans have been used in traditional medicine for centuries for their health benefits, particularly for diabetes control. The historic use of kidney beans in medicine and our developing understanding of their mechanistic benefits through scientific research continue to support their use as a healing influence on our bodies that can lead to better-supported overall kidney health.
Research has shown that kidney beans have more in common with our kidneys than just their shape. Kidney beans don’t only look like human kidneys, but they contain many amino acids, minerals, and vitamins that play key roles in supporting overall kidney health. They’re also naturally low in sodium which can aid in maintaining healthy retention of fluids in the body, and thus further support renal health. More recently, studies have demonstrated the beneficial effects of kidney beans on biomarkers of kidney function in both diabetic and non-diabetic animals.
Bovine Kidney Powder
Bovine Kidney Powder is a unique and powerful food substance made from glandular tissues. “Glandular” is a term used to describe animal glands and organ extracts that are consumed to nourish the corresponding human tissue. Glandular tissues have been used throughout history as food and nutritional supplements, and many cultures have consumed organs from animals for centuries to treat ailments and boost their wellness.
Bovine kidneys are highly similar to human kidneys in their biochemical composition making them an all-important nutrient source. The bovine kidney powder created from them contains many of the amino acids, vitamins, and minerals needed to nourish our human kidneys.
The bovine kidney powder in our supplements is heavily quality-controlled and carefully sourced from happy cattle who graze freely on rangelands. These cows and their pastures are intentionally safeguarded from pesticides, antibiotics, and growth hormones that can be harmful to not only them but us as well when passed after ingestion. After harvest, the powder is flash freeze-dried immediately to preserve naturally occurring vitamins, enzymes, nucleotides, lipoproteins, and other cellular components. To complete the process for this superior ingredient component, we run it all through strict government licensing, auditing, and certification procedures to ensure optimum potency, safety, and efficacy.
Defatted Wheat Germ
Defatted Wheat Germ is yet another natural warrior for our kidneys and it’s only found in our Kidney “Stuff” Original Granular formula. Defatted Wheat Germ is produced through the removal of the oil (which is mostly fat) from the wheat germ kernel, leaving the most vitamin and mineral-rich part of the kernel intact. It boasts a delicious nutty flavor and nutritious end-product that also provides important vitamins, amino acids, and minerals for the body.
It has been concluded that defatted wheat germ can be highly beneficial for promoting the healthy elimination of waste and help support renal health in the process. Recent studies have found that wheat germ supplementation improves kidney function in animals with kidney disease by reducing oxidative stress. If you require a gluten-free (wheat-free) option for supplementation we recommend choosing our capsule formula. Gluten is part of the wheat plant and all wheat germ-based products contain gluten.
Organic Carrot (Root) Powder
Carrot Root Powder has been considered a long-time cleansing medicine throughout the ages. Folklorically, the carrot was used as an ethnomedicine to treat nephrosis and other urinary disorders like kidney stones, water retention, and excess uric acid. This root vegetable contains a wide variety of vitamins and minerals important for kidney health including vitamins A, B, C, E, and K, as well as calcium, iron, and magnesium.
It’s the carrot root’s rich source of the antioxidant beta-carotene, the water-soluble form of vitamin A, that is especially helpful for stimulating urine flow, maintaining healthy fluid levels, filtering toxins out of the blood, and preventing urinary tract infections. Antioxidants within the carrot are used by the body to inactivate reactive oxygen species to mitigate oxidative stress, an important factor in chronic kidney disease. Studies in animal models have demonstrated that carrot root extracts have kidney-protective effects against kidney injury.
Organic Beet (Root) Powder
Beetroot Powder has been known to aid in keeping the blood clean and circulating well throughout the body. It has been spoken of as one of the finest natural cleansing agents available to us. Beets are an excellent source of antioxidants and contain betanin which may support kidney health. Betanin is a natural pigment responsible for the rich color of beets and has been shown to promote the expression of detoxifying enzymes in human cells. Another study demonstrated that beetroot powder has kidney-protective and blood glucose-lowering effects. These powerful results lead the authors of the study to advise daily consumption of beetroot powder for kidney patients.
The sourcing of high-quality beet powder is critical to the performance of the pant food, as betanin is a delicate molecule that is very sensitive to light. The beetroot powder in our products is carefully sourced and transported to ensure maximum potency.
